Reaching Out To The Community

The basic command of the Lord Jesus was to go into all the world and preach the gospel Mark 16:15. In New Testament Greek 'gospel' is 'euaggelion' or good news and is where we get our word 'evangelical' which simply refers to those who spread the good news.
Chardsmead Baptist Church is evangelical and actively engaged in sharing the good news of the Christian gospel. We are currently involved in two main areas of outreach in addition to those services and groups that take place inside the chapel.
If you would like to take part in these please contact us for more information.

Wordsowers is an ongoing program of door to door visitation distributing Christian leaflets which progressively explain the basics of bible Christianity. There is a series of ten leaflets delivered one a week which also contain on the rear a personal testimony of someone we know and their journey to faith despite different life experiences. We seek to engage with the people we meet in conversation if they are willing and share something of God's truth with them to help them find peace with Him.
We currently have three teams of two engaged in Wordsowers except for the winter season when the dark nights prevent the work. Wordsowers is a program of visitation created by Rev Fred Serjeant of Grace Baptist Church Dorchester.
Open Air work is simply the public face of the church, we go into the town and preach the Christian Gospel as The Saviour commanded us to do. Whilst the gospel is being preached we have a team of half a dozen or so who hand out leaflets to passers by and engage with some in conversion as God gives us opportunity. We began this work during the time of our previous pastor and it has continued since 2003. We again break in the winter as the weather often means very few are in the town. Currently we have two men from the church who preach and a team of four who regularly witness with us handing out tracts and engaging passersby in conversation.
Preaching is done on Friday mornings and we meet in the rear hall of the chapel at 10.30 am for prayer (unless the Lord works they that labour, labour in vain) and arrive in the square for an 11.00 am start.
